What I’m Lovin’ Wednesday: Tee Time

No, I’m not a golffer.
I’m almost certain I will never be a golfer.
The Mr golfs but the only way I like golf is if it’s playing on TV while I take a nap.  lol
Needless to say, I’m talking about a different kind of “tee”
The tee’s I’m referring to are a bit more comedic :-)  Check out these fun tees:

I don’t wear a lot of tees, but after checking out some of these, I just might consider it!  Funny right?

Fall is in the Air

Well not really in Houston, but it IS at the Hawley house :-)  I absolutely love fall and everything it brings with it: football, Pumpkin Spice Lattes, boots, cute sweaters, family gatherings, warm fragrances from my Scentsy, and the list could go on for days.  But of course I’m counting the days down to cooler weather too lol.  Since that wont be for a while, I cranked-up the A/C last weekend and transformed our home into a fall wonderland.
Last weekend I posted this picture on twitter saying that I was in the middle of transforming our house from summer to fall.  Sometimes I’ve got to mess up to clean up, and this was just the beginning of the mess.  Know the feeling?

Today I want to share with you the final product (lucky for you, you get to skip the mess). When I think of fall I think of November.  I’m not a big fan of Halloween.  I don’t know why, but it has just never been my holiday.  I don’t hate it, so I guess I just prefer the autumn aspects of fall more.  So I decorate with leaves, pumpkins, and acorns.  I tend to stick with traditional colors: red, yellow, orange, green, and gold.
***If you see something you want to add to your home, I’ve added my shopping list to the bottom of this post***
Fall Decor 5In just some random places around the house:
On the couch I’ve got some brown and white pillows with ruffled amber pillows that I think look like small piles of leaves.
In the kitchen I’ve got some fall-looking tea towels.
In both the office and kitchen I’ve got my Scentsys going with some fall scents.  Scentsys are a must! I would tell you what scents I have going right now but they are changing constantly.  I think I have Sugar Cookie in the office and Autumn Sunset in the kitchen?Fall Decor 2
On the buffet in the dining room I always have a tray with some dishes on top and I simply spruced it up with some fall-colored napkins and gold birds.  My father’s mom passed away a couple years ago and she left these gold birds for me; they are so special to me.
I also filled my hurricane with some coffee beans and a pumpkin candle (see tutorial here).  The beans and candle smell so good with the sun coming through the window. I don’t even have to light the candle to smell it in the afternoon sun. Yum!Fall Decor 3
This is the dining room table. I put a green leafed table runner down the length of the table, and set the table with mutli-colored leaf place mates and whicker chargers.  In the middle I added a rod iron pumpkin pillar holder.Fall Decor 6
I have two sets of autumn napkin rings (leaves and acorns) and I couldn’t decide which ones I liked more so I used both :-) For each place setting I used a brown/gold napkin with a green napkin on the inside.  I think you can see a little more of the green napkins in the pictures above.Fall Decor 7
In front of the fireplace, and under the mantle I just stacked a few things: a candelabra with fall colored pillar candles, wooden acorns, a mini barrel, a milk crate, and an owl votive holder.Fall Decor 1
I put an apothecary jar filled with acorns, a ceramic gourd filled with wheat, a picture, some flowers, and a leaf votive holder on the left side of the mantle.Fall Decor 8
I put a cute feathered owl (which scares the dogs), a green gourd, a picture of the Mr and me, a leaf votive holder, and 2 apothecary jars filled with either pumpkins or pine cones on the right side of the mantle.Fall Decor 9
In the middle of the mantle I hung the swag I made last year. You can check out the tutorial here.Fall Decor 4
I think the Hawley house is ready for autumn, wouldn’t you say?  Are you? What are you most looking forward to this season :-)

What I'm Lovin' Wednesday: Shame-Full Brushes

Oh. my. goodness.  My makeup brushes were so shameful!  When Britt shared the benefits of frequently cleaning your makeup brushes, I was hanging my head in shame!  I mean seriously, as much as I use those things, how come I don't clean them more often!? What is wrong with me?!

Dirty makeup brushes can carry bacteria which cause acne, eye infections, and oily skin.

I know this is a terrible image to paint for you, but when I read that do you know what I thought about? You know how you peel after a bad sun burn, and how all of your skin flakes off.  Yeah, my mind went there and all I thought about was dead skin in my makeup brushes.

Um hello?!?!?!  Seriously, why don't I clean my brushes once a month?!

Starting NOW, this is about to change.

Fill some cups with warm water and a tablespoon of gentle shampoo (i.e. baby shampoo).  Make sure that your cups are not so full that the metal piece is submerged in the water.  You don't want that to rust and ruin your brushes.

Lightly swirl your brushes in the soapy water, and let them sit for 20 minutes.

Then rinse your brushes in warm water, reshape and allow your brushes to dry.

Are you now inspired to clean your brushes now too? haha  Do it friends!  Your skin will thank you!  Thank you Britt for posting your tutorial!!!
Have a great Wednesday!

Photo-A-Day Challenge {August}

In July I participated in Fatmumslim's Photo-A-Day Challenge and had a blast.  When August rolled around I knew I wanted to try the challenge again. In case you’re unfamiliar with the Photo-A-Day Challenge, you’re given a prompt for each day of the month for which to capture in a photo.  I had so much fun in August and I’m looking forward to September.  If you want to follow me as I capture September, you can find me here on Twitter and here on Instagram.
So here we go, this was August:
Day 1: Outside (the jewel box)
Day 2: One (hot day)
Day 3: Coin (jar)
Day 4: Where I sat (on the water)
Day 5: Logo (breakfast in bed)
Day 6: Writing (to shop)
Day 7: 8 o'clock (traffic & yours truly)
Day 8: Glassed (clean)
Day 9: Messy (under the sink)
Day 10: Ring (the 2 most important)
Day 11: Purple (basking in the Olympic glow)
Day 12: Spoon (not required)
Day 13: Simple (pizza lunch)
Day 14: Arrow (to my new office)
Day 15: Ready (for the day & rockin' my topsy tail)
Day 16: Food (but not for me)
Day 17: Face (of a girl who "loves" jewels lol)
Day 18: Inside (my make-up bag)
Day 19: Hole (someone bit the mozzarella hmmmmm)
Day 20: Today (is back to school day & I'm ready)
Day 21: Cool
Day 22: Home (is where the heart is)
Day 23: A pair (that every girl needs)
Day 24: Path
Day 25: Fresh (new growth)
Day 26: Dream
Day 27: Tap (for fishes)
Day 28: Clock
Day 29: Down
Day 30: Card (our wall of love)
Day 31: Hidden ("behind locked doors")

What do you think?  Did you see how I was trying to think outside of the prompt?  I had a lot of fun with this, but I think my favorite photo was #10 just because of the sentimental value.  Did you have a favorite?

Thanks for following me this month; I'm looking forward to your comments for September on Twitter or Instagram!

Have a great week friends!
xoxo Darby
