This past weekend was *very* eventful in the Hawley house. We hit another milestone. When we first got married we knew that we wanted a dog, but had little confidence in our abilities to bring 2 disciplining/parenting styles together and keep the dog alive, so we thought that we would start with something smaller, and work our way up. We started with plants.
For the past two years we have kept our garden alive and even producing fruit (see last year here and this year here). We decided that we were ready for the next step. We had prayed and discussed, were financially ready, were ready to make compromises and work together as a team. So last week we seriously searched for the perfect addition to our family. We found her! We are pleased to introduce you to the newest Hawley: Tomlin (yes we are serious Steelers fans and named her after our *favorite* coach, because we’re fanatics like that).
Just after we picked her up and getting in the car to come home for the first time. (Yes, I was so excited that I was taking pictures in the parking lot)
Phil and I were glad that we had a long weekend to figure a few things out and spend time with our new little gal. For example, the first few days were spent learning things like: how to crate train, how often does Tomlin need to “use the ladies room”, how long should she spend napping, how often should she be bathed, what should we feed her and how often, what problems should we be looking for, is our house puppy-proofed, what kind of toys do teething puppies need? Thank goodness we are fast learners :-)
We were even “fortunate” to have our first trip to the River Oaks Animal Hospital yesterday. We have a little bit of an upper respiratory infection goin’ on, but we’re going to be ok after about 10 days of cough medicine and antibiotics. Then we will be ready for some puppy play dates (and she certainly has the energy for it!). We play and play, until we can’t play anymore. Therefore, there’s a lot of sleeping going on around here these days :-)
Clearly, we’re still learning what these little pads are for
She has already claimed the recliner, among many other things, as her own.
…in front of the buffet and under the table
Her very own couch for snooze’n
Isn’t she so precious?! This little girl is such a delight and we just love having her as part of our family. Also, I am loving learning about our new roles as puppy-parents with my hubby. It’s been so easy and fun. Thank you Lord for letting us take care of one of your beautiful creatures!
