When the memory of these little birdfeeders as a child popped back into my brain, I knew that my littles would love to make some too. It's an easy & cheap craft with lots of fun. While Dutch loved making these, he really loved sitting on the window seat in his room watching the birds & squirrels outside eat off the feeder. So let's go and make some :-)
This is so simple, and most likely you have everything that you need at your fingertips, or a quick trip to the grocery store. Bird seed, peanut butter, used paper towel roll or toilet paper roll (or even a pinecone), twigs from the yard, a hole punch, and some string. See....easy!
Before getting started, punch two holes in the bottom of the paper towel/toilet paper roll for the twigs to go through for the birds to land on & 2 at the top for the string to go through so that you can hang it on a tree branch. Then let your little one apply some peanut butter to the cardboard or pine cone. I put the bird seed on a paper plate and let Dutch just roll the buttered cardboard through the seed.
After rolling the paper towel roll in the bird seed, push the string through the top to use as a hanger, and push the twigs through the bottom, and hang on a nearby branch so you can watch the birds :-)

Have fun with your little one!
