Tis the season for Christmas parties, and folks, we have to address this. Like it’s serious y’all. If you’re hosting a Christmas party this year and you don’t serve this drink, the party will be an epic fail. Epic! You can thank me later for making sure you host the par-tay of the year ;-) Wassail is a delicious warm drink that is a traditional English beverage consumed to ensure that the apple harvest the following year would be plentiful. Not to overlook the tradition, but there is more to this nostalgic drink. This wassail will warm you to your toes around a camp fire, remind you of Christmases of old, and fill your home with the scents of the season. Just having this cook on the stove will keep you in the Christmas spirit, so really, you don’t even need to host a Christmas party to have this drink. I cook it just because it’s a cool Tuesday or I’m watching Christmas movies with my babies on a rainy day. Promise me that you’ll try this!
(Sidebar- While wassail can be served with alcohol, this version doesn’t include any)
Ingredients:
1.5 liters of sweet apple cider
1.5 cups orange juice, low pulp
2 cups pineapple juice
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1 cup sugar
4 cinnamon sticks
3/4 tsp whole cloves
Directions:
You can make this stove-top or in the crockpot. I tend to use the crockpot so that I can keep my stove clear for other things. But the directions are the same for either method.
1. Dump all ingredients into a large stockpot or a crockpot, and heat on high for a couple hours, stirring occasionally and being careful not to bring to a boil. Turn down to low and let heat for as long as you want. Your house will smell delicious!
2. Serve warm.
3. Enjoy, and Merry Christmas!
