What I’m Lovin’ Wednesday: Shower Crafts

If you recall from my post last Friday, I hosted a baby shower and the theme was the ABC’s.  I will be the first to admit that I *love* a themed event; I get SO excited.  One of my spiritual gifts is planning, crafting, and serving for others; basically encouragement through service.  God has given me this gift and I just love crafting for events and serving friends through showers.  I talk more about this here.  Today I wanted to share some tough crafts I made for a shower I hosted.

For my friend Pilar’s baby shower I attempted to make the yarned letters that I have seen all over Pinterest. I really do think they are super cute, but I had the hardest time making them.  It wasn’t really hard or tedious really, it was just awkward.  I don’t know if that makes sense or not, but I had the most difficult time getting the yarn all lined up; instead of having the sophisticated look I was going for, it was more shabby chic. lol
In theory it is very easy: buy a letter ($2) and wrap it in yarn ($3).  Easy enough right?DSC_0729DSC_0730DSC_0745
Here are my finished letters.  You see how the yarn is a little messy around the corners?  I was not going for that messy look, so if you have any tips for me, that would be greatly appreciated!

I started cutting out circles out of cardstock: one small circle in light blue, and 2 larger circles in dark blue for each cupcake.  By the way, there were 48 cupcakes, so that’s a total of 144 perfect little circles……wamp wamp!  The circles were all lop-sided and pretty tacky looking.  I quickly changed to squares because I could even them out better.DSC_0757
I put 2 dark blue squares together with a toothpick between them and glued them with a hot glue gun.DSC_0756
While the dark blue squares with the toothpick were drying, I stamped ‘A’, ‘B’, or ‘C’ on the light blue squares.DSC_0758DSC_0759Once the ink was dried I glued the light blue squares to one side of the dark blue squares.  Then the toppers were ready to be stuck into the cupcakes.
‘B’ is for BabyDSC_0020
If you don’t purchase something to help you make these, go with the squares; they are SO much easier than circles!
Both of these crafts were a challenge to me.  Even though serving others is a spiritual gift of mine, it still requires me to pray for strength and patience. (Psalm 18:1 “I love you, Lord, my strength”)
